Suhas on a roll

Suhas on a roll Suhas has distinguished himself by appearing in three films so far this year. He first appeared in “Ambajipeta Marriage Band,” followed by “Sri Ranga Neethulu” and “Prasanna Vadanam.” Except for “Sri Ranga Neethulu,” an anthology, Suhas played lead roles in the other two films. Despite these movies not performing well at the box office, Suhas has proven to be a resilient and enduring actor in the first half of 2024.

And Suhas is not stopping there. He is set to appear in upcoming films such as “Cable Reddy,” “Anandrao Adventures,” and “Gorre Puranam.” Additionally, Prime Video announced that Suhas will star opposite Keerthy Suresh in their original feature film “Uppu Kappurambu.” This announcement received mixed reactions, with some trolling Suhas for not being a “big enough” star to pair with Keerthy Suresh, while others appreciated his diverse and interesting roles. Most recently, Dil Raju Productions announced that Suhas will headline their film “Janaka Aithe Ganaka.”

Suhas on a roll

Having a prolific lineup in a single year is rare for any actor today, with most appearing in only one or two films annually. Even tier-1 actors often have a release every two or three years. Yet, Suhas is managing multiple films.

Suhas began his career in cinema playing character roles, leading to multiple releases each year. After debuting in 2018 in “Padi Padi Leche Manasu” as Sharwanand’s friend, he appeared in four films in 2019, two in 2020, and five in 2021. Although Suhas debuted as a lead actor in 2020 with “Colour Photo,” he had to wait three more years to star in “Writer Padmabhushan” as a lead again. Now, Suhas appears in multiple films, mostly in lead roles.

Apart from “Gorre Puranam,” where he will have an extended cameo, and “Uppu Kappurambu,” where Keerthy Suresh may have a bigger role, all his upcoming films feature Suhas as the lead. The success of these films at the box office largely rests on him.

In an era where many actors prefer to wait for good scripts rather than doing back-to-back films, which used to be the norm for heroes in the last century, Suhas’ busy schedule is notable. His background in short films and Chai Bisket is helping him, as many current directors are people he collaborated with back then. Suhas is also open to taking on smaller roles or cameos, though he might focus more on lead roles if he becomes more successful.

Suhas recently called Vijay Sethupathi his idol, and their careers share similarities. Both actors came from a short film background, defied conventional looks, and built varied portfolios, playing protagonists, antagonists, supporting characters, and cameos. Though it’s a stretch to place Suhas and Vijay Sethupathi on the same level, Vijay Sethupathi’s success sets a precedent for Suhas to build a performance-oriented career. This would be refreshing in the Telugu film industry, where many actors, regardless of their background, often focus on heroic stardom. For now, Suhas seems to be choosing films with strong stories.

Despite Suhas’ impressive journey, it’s crucial for his films to succeed in the future. Kiran Abbavaram, who had a prolific run with three releases in 2022 and three in 2023, had to take a break after several flops to reassess his choices. Let’s hope Suhas continues to work in multiple films and finds success.
